Advance notice: Album Florian Döling's European Quartet - Schwebend

As early as the second rehearsal—even before the upcoming three garden concerts in the Jazz am Schönberg series in the summer of 2025—a recording device was running. This was at the suggestion of our saxophonist Juan José Cabillas, who had access to high-quality recording equipment.

The recording of the second rehearsal was actually a live recording: we were standing relatively close together in a room—like on a stage—and overdubs weren’t possible due to crossover interference. The only thing distinguishing the recording from a true live recording is the ability to do another run-through of a song, each as a single take.

The second rehearsal was—as far as Juanjo and Vaclav are concerned—the very first time we’d ever played together. It was almost like a kind of soulmates, as if we’d known each other for years…

The recordings are characterized by a freshness and liveliness that comes about when all the players, faced with new material, are extremely focused and, with ears wide open, prioritize the music and communication.

Info about the band here.

We’ve now listened to the recorded material and selected the songs for our first album. The album is now moving into the next stages of production (mixing, mastering, graphic design, etc.).

The album is expected to be released in July 2026, for the first time on vinyl and no longer on CD. For more information on this change in anflow records’ label policy, see Philosophy.
